Educational Programs
Interactive History of Jazz

The VCJB offers an outstanding educational performance that is perfect for a school-wide assembly or an evening of jazz for young musicians and their parents.

Through this unique blend of education, demonstration, and interaction, the band shares the development and the history of jazz through interactive modules including:

Education: Jazz is one of only a few art forms America can call her own. The VCJB will explain the who, what, when, where, why, and how of jazz.
Demonstration/Interaction: Students will learn about the role of each individual instrument, intonation, collaboration, listening, teamwork, improvisation, dynamics, and blending.

Performance: The band will perform and explain some of the various musical origins and influences within jazz, including blues, marches, religious, traditional, and Latin influences, etc.

Religious Services
Traditional Jazz Church Service, Funerals, Church Picnics

One of the strong influences in the development of traditional jazz was religious music. The VCJB presents an outstanding traditional jazz church service that has enjoyed tremendous success. The program includes traditional favorites including “Closer Walk With Thee”, “Just A Little While”, “Amazing Grace”, “Down By The Riverside”, and “When The Saints Go Marching In”. In addition, the band creates a very special and unique atmosphere at funerals and is a very popular and upbeat addition to church picnics.
